What is #NewMusicMonday?

Here's a little story of how this series got started...

After having worked on hand lettering projects for over two years, I was ready for a new challenge. Up until today, most of my work has been in analog with the help of my Tombow and Pigma Micron pens. I love working in analog and I love the natural feeling of my pens creating imperfect brush strokes in my notebooks.

But lately I've been starting to crave something else. I've been wanting to explore new territories and begin experimenting lettering in the digital world. Photoshop and Illustrator are programs I've familiarized myself with over the years but I know there are so many more things I could do with it besides creating mockups for my designs or cleaning up my photos. I want to get my hands dirty.

I've completed several self-initiated challenges for myself like #365DaysOfHandlettering and #AlphabetChallenge so I thought I'd do something similar. I've also been wanting to combine my passion for lettering with another passion of mine: music.

Starting today I will be working on a new challenge called #NewMusicMonday. (Another back story... Every Friday, Spotify releases a new playlist called "New Music Friday" and it compiles a bunch of new songs released by artists all over the world. I love music and I look forward to listening to this playlist every week.) After listening to this playlist, I will select one song to feature on my page for #NewMusicMonday. Whether it's a new single by a popular artist or a song released by a rising musician, I'll hand letter the title and use Photoshop and Illustrator to create a design that I believe best depicts the song.

The goal is to practice digital lettering every week and experiment with different Photoshop & Illustrator effects along the way. I'll be embarking on a new lettering journey and I'm excited to share my progress you while also helping you discover awesome music.
