Too Good At Goodbyes
Featured Artist: Sam Smith
Our #NewMusicMonday pick for this week is a track we've all been waiting for. Last Friday, Sam Smith dropped his new single, "Too Good At Goodbyes", and it's bringing everyone to tears. It's been two whole years since the English singer-songwriter and four time Grammy winner released his last track, "Writings on the Wall", for the 2015 James Bond film, Spectre. It's so great to see Sam Smith making his return to the music scene and to make things even better, he's confirmed his second album will be released later this year.
“It's been a long while since I've put any music out and I feel that this first single sets the tone of what is to come.”
The track begins with Smith's soulful voice accompanied by simple piano chords and a light finger snapping beat. As the track progresses and reaches the chorus, it blends in beautiful strings and a gospel choir, all harmonizing beautifully with Smith's exceptional vocals. While listening to the song, my heart was almost overwhelmed with such emotional and spiritual energy and I wanted to make sure the same feelings were translated in my lettering piece. I decide to take another stab at the 3D neon design, but this time creating a more realistic version with cables and walls incorporated in the background while also carefully selecting the hue and illumination of the light to resemble the track's emotional lyrics describing heartache and loneliness.
Give it a listen and let me know what you think!
